Navasota, Texas – An Overview

The US city of Navasota in the state of Texas is located on a bend of the Navasota River located in southeastern Grimes County. It’s just a few miles from the hustle and bustle of large metropolitan areas. Navasota, located at the intersection of State Highway 105 and Farm roads 3090 and 1227, provides a home for those desiring a return to peace and quiet in a charming environment. So, Navasota is still known as a “desirable home” for many for many ages. It sits approximately 25 miles south of Bryan-College Station. A State Highway 6 connects it to the cities and to Houston.  

Education is the cornerstone of any progressive community. So, Grimes County schools take pride in producing the highest quality students. John C Webbel and Navasota Higher Secondary are some of the schools here. With Texas A & M University and Blinn College close by, the students have opportunities to attend the highest quality educational facilities in the area.

Navasota is endowed with fresh country air and healthy environment. The visitors to the rolling hills of southeast Texas are so much impressed with the wide variety of trees, scenic hills, flowing rivers and green grazing pasture land. The Grimes County located approximately 115 miles from Waco, offers crisp, clear, unpolluted skies and moderate temperatures. The terrain is hilly and partly forested, draining to the Navasota and Brazos rivers to the west and south respectively. Gibbons Creek Reservoir offers fishing and boating year around. Grimes County is perhaps rapidly growing into a center for health-care and Grimes St Joseph Health Center serves the entire metropolitan area.

Navasota and Grimes County has long been known as the “Land of Milk and Honey” due to the numerous dairies and beehives. The city, located 70 miles from Houston, has multiple recreational opportunities. These include a Blues Fest, the Texas Renaissance Festival, an annual Golf Tournament, a state park, day spas, a municipal golf course, antique galleries, museums like the Star of the Republic Museum and historic sites like Horlock History Center, which offers a wide variety of activities for all age groups. The historic Victorian home is famous, many of which line Washington Avenue. Another historic edifice is Brule Field, which serves as the primary field for the local high school football team. Visitors also congregate to the area each spring to view the famous Texas Bluebonnets. The Navasota Center consists of the LaSalle room, a game room which features air hockey, foosball, ping pong, and pool tables as well as other tables for dominos, board and card games. Awaken your spirit in the Piney Woods with the summer camp section of Camp Allen. It is one of the largest summer camp programs in the Episcopal Church and one of the leading ones in the U.S.
