Liberty , Texas – An Overview
The U.S city of Liberty is the county seat of Liberty County, located in the state of Texas within the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metropolitan area. Liberty is considered to be the third oldest city of the state. The city was established on the banks of the famed Trinity River.

Schools and education are of prime importance here. One major public school district, the Liberty Independent School District, serves the whole of the city. Liberty High, a High School, serves grades 9-12, while the Liberty Middle School, an intermediate school serves grades 6-8. Both Liberty Elementary and San Jacinto Elementary are Elementary Schools.
Liberty City is the place to head to for fun and vacations. The Liberty Municipal Park offers a wide range of amenities. It is a stunning three-acre park with stocked pond for fishing. There are picnic tables all over the place. A beautiful 2-mile paved trail is good for all biking, running, hiking and walking purposes. The park also provides Lighted Basketball Pavilion, Jr. Olympic Size Swimming Pool with Diving Boards, Public Restrooms, Fenced Children’s Playground Areas and much more. There are other neighborhood parks that offer facilities like Fenced Children’s Playground Areas with picnic tables and seats. These neighborhood parks strictly prohibit alcohol.
The Liberty Municipal Library has everything to offer for all ages. The library has an Active Friends Circle that meets on the second Monday of each month, during the school year. Special events like the Friends Book and Bake Sale hosted each March during the Liberty Jubilee raises money to buy all library equipment and also to pay for programs like the Story Time and Summer Reading Programs. This library serves both the city and the neighboring areas. The Liberty Municipal Airport is the city’s major airport.
Tourists looking to explore the history of this city can head to the Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center. This legendary store serves all 10 Southeast Texas counties and originated from the Atascosito-Liberty district of the Republic of Mexico. Main displays here pertain to the city’s origin, 1826 census, Jean Laffite’s journals, artifacts and elegant furniture. The center also showcases the Texana collection of former Governor Price Daniel.
'Liberty Jubilee’ is the annual event held on the fourth weekend of March every year. The festival dates back to 1986 when it was organized the first time and was a major success. Festivities begin Friday noon and run through the weekend. Some popular events that form a part of this grand celebration are a fireworks display, street dance, parade, live entertainment, cook-off contest, art and craft competition and antique show. Besides the fun, you can also indulge your taste buds in the great food sold by vendors here.
