Lake Jackson, Texas – An Overview

Lake Jackson is a vibrant, planned city in Southern Brazoria County, Texas within the Houston-Baytown metropolitan area. Lake Jackson is accessible via State Highway 332, State Highway 288, FM 2004 and the Port of Freeport. These roads provide access to Houston, Galveston, and the market areas of Brazoria, Matagorda and Fort Bend Counties. The city is bounded by total area of 51.3 km˛ (19.8 mi˛) out of which 49.3 km˛ (19.0 mi˛) is land and 2.0 km˛ (0.8 mi˛) of it (3.84%) is water. The Lake Jackson city is an incorporated residential community ten miles upriver from the mouth of the Brazos River in south central Brazoria County 

Lake Jackson is named after an oxbow lake of the same name on the outskirts of town. The lake, in turn, was named after the family whose antebellum plantation house was placed alongside the lake. Very minor ruins of the Lake Jackson Plantation can now be seen. The bustling city of Houston is just an hour away.

In the field of education, the residents are zoned to Grady B. Rasco Middle School Lake Jackson Intermediate School. Brazosport College is a public community college, which was recently upgraded to offer a baccalaureate degree in certain technical fields. Lake Jackson, located fifty miles south of Houston, is in close proximity to the world's largest petrochemical complex and related industries; major components of this complex include Dow Chemical Company, BASF Corporation, Phillips Petroleum and many more.

Brazosport Museum of Natural Science named as one of the ten best museums in Texas is home to the largest collection of shells on display in the South with shells from around the world.

The city located forty-five miles southwest of Galveston and eight miles north of the Gulf of Mexico has several wildlife preserves namely The Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge and is host to a major bird count each Christmas season. The city of Lake Jackson offers multiple recreational facilities that include various athletic complexes, Dunbar Pavilion, MacLean Pavilion, the Outdoor Pool and the Recreation Center. The Wilderness Golf Course is a new clubhouse, which meets all the golfing needs. You can also find many churches here like the Angleton Road Church of Christ, Brazos Pointe Fellowship, Chapelwood United Methodist, and Christ Lutheran Church.
