Crockett, Texas – An Overview

The city of Crockett is the county seat of Houston County, the first county established by the Republic of Texas. The Crockett area is full of great places to visit and interesting things to do. "The Tie That Binds" Sculpture in Crockett serves to remind you of the ancestors who came into the Houston County and settled here. It is cast in bronze in a life-and-a-quarter size and is found in the center of the town square. Caddoan Mounds State Historical Park features reconstructions of the village area, dwellings and mounds inhabited by pioneering Indians. Mission Tejas State Historical Park is set in the hills of the East Texas Piney Woods. The park offers camping and picnicking for you to enjoy the lush green natural beauty. Davy Crockett National Forest located in Houston and Trinity counties is one of the largest national forests in the state. Recreational activities in this forest include hiking, biking trails, swimming, boating and fishing.

David Crockett Fall Festival held in September honors the fallen hero of the Alamo, David Crockett, after whom the city is named. People participate in many fun activities like arts and crafts booths, children's games and activities, food booths, washer pitching tournament and entertainment. Crockett Independent School District serves the city of Crockett.
