Baytown, Texas – An Overview

The U.S. city of Baytown is located in the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metropolitan area along the Gulf Coast region of Texas. The city is mostly in Harris County with a small portion in Chambers County.A prominent division of the Harris County, Baytown takes the credit of being the fourth largest city in the metropolitan area. 

Baytown is a coastal city bounded by water on three sides. Located on the northern shore of Galveston Bay between the San Jacinto River on the west and the Trinity River on the east, this is a city where marine life thrives. Interstate 10 bounds the city roughly along the north.

In the field of education, Baytown is served by the Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District, comprising 14 elementary schools, 5 junior schools, 2 high schools, Stuart Career Center, Special Education Center and much more. Ross S. Sterling High and Robert E. Lee High are the two high schools. Lee College is the two-year junior college. Stallworth Stadium hosts the varsity football and soccer events and the Bayou Bowl as well. Apart from the GCCISD, the area also has services of the Baytown Christian Academy, San Jacinto Christian Academy and St. Joseph Catholic School.

The city of Baytown, located 22 miles east of the county seat of Houston, has a lot to offer to its tourists. There are umpteen fun activities you can indulge in here. Go for a relaxing stroll in the Baytown Nature Center, a natural habitat for the rare and endangered species of mammals, aquatic animals, birds, butterflies and wildflowers. Take time out for a game of golf in the Evergreen Point Golf Course, a short distance from the historic San Jacinto Battlefield. The San Jacinto Monument in the battlegrounds holds testimony to the rich history of Texas. You can also visit the Houston Raceway Park, a state-of-the-art motorsports complex that hosts races every year.

Baytown has over 40 parks, each featuring several amenities. Many of them are located on or near Goose Creek. Allenbrook Park, Ashbel Smith School Park, Bayland Park, Bayland Waterfront, Busch Terrace Park, Central Little League Park, Walter L. Jenkins Park, Wayne Gray Sports Complex, Roseland Park are few of the popularly visited ones. All, except the Gray Sports Complex, are closed to public between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.
