Wharton, Texas – An Overview

The US city of Wharton in Wharton County is in the El Campo metro area. The city is located on the Colorado River, 30 miles southwest of Sugar Land, 55 miles from downtown Houston, and is bounded by U.S. Highway 59 on the west and the Colorado River to the south. The Colorado River, which traverses the county from northwest to southeast, divides it roughly in half and flows through Wharton and Glen Flora.

Wharton, located 45 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, is the perfect stop for an hour, a day, or a lifetime. It is a paradise for birdwatchers and sportsmen. From antiques to fashion, the shops here sell it all. Enjoy the sights of the city by visiting the historical homes, museums, and cattle ranches. The winding landscape of the Riverfront Park along the Colorado River is a relaxing atmosphere for picnic and day use; equipped with barbecue pits, tables, and restrooms.
