Edna, Texas – An Overview

Edna is the county seat of Jackson County in Texas, US. The city is well known as the “Flag City” and is rich in petroleum and natural gas production.  

Brackenridge Plantation Campground is one of the attractions situated on Lake Texana. Lake Texana State Park offers recreational activities of camping, boating, water skiing, canoeing, picnicking and fishing. Freshwater fishing enthusiasts can enjoy fishing in the lake that offers a habitat for fish species like Florida hybrid bass, crappie, catfish and bream. This Lake is a haven for bird watchers too. Elevated Gazebo is a great spot for bird watching. A bike trail meanders through the park and makes walking, jogging or biking on it a scenic pleasure. Take a walk in the woods where you can catch deer, birds and a variety of wildlife in action.

Texana Museum is another significant place to visit and to go back in time when the historical events took place. Museum exhibits a vast collection of art and artifacts pertaining to the county’s early history. It has a piano more than 133 years old and played during Christmas season every year. Otto Lawrence Children's Museum offers a hands-on experience to children of all ages. Vintage clothes are available to spark young minds, while the homemade games are fun to indulge in. This facility is housed in the old Jackson County jail.

Seven museums in six Texas coastal counties are banded together to create the La Salle Odyssey that starts at Texana Museum in Edna City. It reverberates the story of Robert La Salle’s French expedition to Texas in 1684. Only an actual tour of the museum would allow visitors to truly explore the fascinating collection of the historical memorabilia housed here.

Historic Texana Church is the oldest church built in 1859. The church is an exhibit of 150 to 300 years old musical instruments, Jackson County artifacts and miniature reproduction of buildings. Edna Independent School District serves the City of Edna.
