Conroe is the county seat of Montgomery County, Texas, US within the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metropolitan area. The city is seven miles from Lake Conroe in the central part of the county.

The Oscar Johnson, Jr. Community Center is the hub of activity for the local community situated on nearly two and one-half acres south of downtown Conroe. The center provides many facilities like classrooms, library, computer room, kitchen and offices. Outdoor features include a lighted basketball court, playground area, picnic tales and swimming pool. The Aquatic Center offers educational programs, fitness programs, lap swimming and recreational swimming. It also includes a zero-depth, seasonal leisure pool featuring a graduated beach entry, and interactive play structures with water blasters, mini slides, a water curtain, and giant tipping bucket spilling 400 gallons of water periodically. You can enjoy water sports and fishing on Lake Conroe.

Jones State Forest is the great coastal birding trail and a home for red-cockaded woodpeckers. Forest has Sweetleaf Nature trail, two small ponds and a picnic area. Sam Houston National Forest offers camping, hiking, wildlife viewing, hunting and boating. Historical exhibits can be seen in the Heritage Museum of Montgomery. Armstrong Elementary Park, Camdy Park, McDade Park, Stewarts Creek Park, Lewis Park, Lions Park and Lake Conroe Park are perfect haven for picnickers. These parks also offer playgrounds for kids to play around. Discount Djz, Huckleberry Hill Incorporated and Wilsons Fun City are the amusement parks here.
